Great article Louise, thanks for sharing. Interestingly, my sales support manager (21) requested last year to take a sabbatical for three months to travel and of course I agreed. YOYO doesn't even apply here as at the other end of the spectrum I would equally have agreed. She travelled to Thailand and this really was a fantastic experience for her, and of course it helps when working in the travel industry to be well travelled. I think that allowing this flexibility brings about loyalty too. It is more challenging for SME's to accommodate and cover the absence but I would still allow her and indeed encourage her to do it again. BTW I have ticked off most of those on the bucket list, some even more than once! The Northern Lights I was fortunate enough to visit last year and I'm my early fifties!
Do you have that burning desire to escape the workplace for a life of travel? With summer fast approaching 48% of the UK workforce are not planning their summer holiday, instead they are looking to swap their briefcase for a backpack and travel the world. Inghams ran a nationwide survey to 2,000 people via One Poll to find out the most popular items on Brits bucket- lists, which revealed travel overall was the most desired thing to do. It was interesting to discover that 22% said they don’t have enough holiday allowance to travel. Louise Newton, Group Head of Marketing at Inghams commented “It’s disappointing to hear that a fourth of the UK don’t have a suitable holiday allowance to take a holiday.
