When your linkedin profile shows a picture of yourself opposite a grinning Bill Clinton, you get the impression of the level that David Scowsill operates at. Many who have enjoyed a long and successful career in the global travel industry such as Scowsill would usually be looking for a string of non-exec roles at this stage in their careers.
Not Scowsill though, who having stepped down after 7 years as President & CEO of The WTTC (World Travel & Tourism Council), has just been appointed CEO of EON Reality, one of the leading virtual reality companies in the world.
It proves that a background in the travel industry with its embracing of technology and it's global reach is seen as an ideal grounding to run an exciting hi-tech company.
EON Reality, a world leader in augmented and virtual reality based knowledge transfer for industry and education, has announced David Scowsill will take up the role of chief executive with the company. The former head of the World Travel & Tourism Council stepped down earlier this year. He was replaced at the organisation by former Mexican minister of tourism, Gloria Guevara Manzo. In his new role, Scowsill will succeed Mats Johansson, who will continue to serve on the board and as president of EON Reality. Scowsill has also been appointed to the board of directors. “The world is entering a new phase of technological disruption, driven by big data, artificial intelligence, robotics, augmented reality, and virtual reality,” said Scowsill.
