Its quite a eye catching headline isn't it. Sometimes we wrongly only think within our own little bubble, but having the privilege to attend the WTTC Global Summit this week you really do appreciate what a huge and significant industry it is that we work in.
Too often we see the bad news stories but this one is nothing but good news. The global growth forecasts for travel are immense. During the conference an astonishing stat emerged about the Chinese market - there are 417 million Chinese Millennials, which is more than the population of the US and Canada combined; and only 9% of Chinese people have passports. When you hear these things you start to appreciate the potential for our industry.
Travel and tourism is “the best industry partner for governments”, World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) president and chief executive Gloria Guevara told industry leaders on Wednesday. Addressing the WTTC global summit in Seville, Guevara said: “Our sector will generate 100 million jobs over the next decade, meaning one in four new jobs will be thanks to travel and tourism. “Our sector is truly the best partner for governments to generate economic growth, create jobs and reduce poverty.”
